Dr. Kasey Miller is an assistant professor in the Congdon School at the University of North Carolina-Wilmington. Dr. Miller is a retired Marine Major, Military Advisor, and Communications Information Systems Officer. Dr. Miller graduated from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in Electronic Systems Technologies and the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), an M.S. in Computer Science, and a Ph.D. in Information Sciences. Dr. Miller is also a graduate of the Naval War College and is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Project Management Professional (PMP). Dr. Miller is also a Certified Knowledge Manager (CKM) and Certified in Quantitative Risk Management (CQRM). Dr. Miller has taught at the US Naval Academy in the Computer Science Department and is a former cybersecurity Program Manager (PM) and federal employee with the Marine Corps and Navy.
As a civilian, Dr. Miller was employed as a Senior PM for the Cyber Security & Information Systems Information Analysis Center (CSIAC). His role involved providing program management and supporting various projects for the Information Management Office (IMO) at II Marine Expeditionary Force (MEF) aboard Camp Lejeune, NC. His focus was on HIPAA and information assurance with software development. In May 2016, Dr. Miller transitioned to a government civilian role as the II MEF IMO Policy, Process, and Automation Manager (PP&A) and Information Technology Specialist (System Analysis). His mission was to improve the continuous exchange of information within the MEF. Dr. Miller's ability to lead and work effectively in diverse environments is evident in his former role as a PM, core team leader, scientist, and engineer for the Aviation Lifecycle Management (AvPLM) Program at NAVAIR. Lastly, Dr. Miller is a guest speaker and has published multiple articles in significant military and civilian journals and conference proceedings.
