Abstract

  • The National Centers of Academic Excellence in Cybersecurity program for Cyber Defense uses the fundamental element Knowledge Unit to bundle learning outcomes and topics, and to validate that programs of study include foundational cybersecurity content as well as provide sufficient breadth and depth. A simplifying program guideline treats all knowledge units as equivalent for mapping purposes and validating a program of study, regardless of the number and difficulty of learning outcomes and the number of topics. In this paper, we suggest a more granular approach may be appropriate when comparing knowledge units based on a count of the learning outcomes, the count of topics, and the differing revised Bloom cognitive levels to which learning outcomes map.
