Description
Through nanotechnology new forms of medical sensors are being created that allow individuals to have their own medical sensor to monitor the environment (pollutants) as well as health (such as dissolved oxygen or insulin). Participants will make tiny circuits to address one of four different problem-based investigations. Demonstrations on nanoscale science will be provided. Labs and instructional activities will be provided. There will also be opportunities for discussion about the ethics that these new technologies are presenting for researchers and policy makers. Special emphasis will be given to the new Standards and how these new technologies address cross cutting concepts (bonding, molecular structures, size and scale), science and engineering processes, and essential science content.
