Learning Terrorism: the contemporaneous spread of terrorism in 19th century Europe

Is terrorist behavior contagious? Studies on the spread of terrorism in different periods find little empirical evidence for the assertion that terrorism is contagious. Yet scholarship on the history of terrorism will intuitively speak of waves of terrorism as a by-product of contagious spread. This study draws upon the period between 1848 and 1900 to explore the different ways terrorism, as a new revolutionary strategy, developed and spread across Europe and the World. Understanding contemporaneous spread of terrorism in the 19^th century is instructive for understanding evolving trends in terrorism in our current climate.
