It's the Students, Stupid: Student Cheating and Perceptions of Snitching Presentation uri icon

Description

  • “If a student wants to cheat they will cheat. Since elementary school we have been taught about cheating and the consequences of it… not because it’s something the university can do to help,” anonymous student survey response. Despite faculty efforts to prevent academic dishonesty, research indicates that between 50 percent to 75 percent of undergraduate students admit to cheating and 50 to 70 percent of faculty reporting that they have observed cheating in their classroom. Our survey and research finds that the aforementioned anonymous student’s comment isn’t far off the mark; there isn’t much more the university can do, it’s up to the students to turn in their peers.
