Artificial intelligence (AI) tools simulate human cognitive functions, such as learning, adapting, and using data, and enhance efficiency but also raise ethical concerns, particularly in education settings. Unregulated use of AI can lead to issues like plagiarism, copyright infringement, and creation of biased or discriminatory content. AI tools like ChatGPT are widely accessible, and these tools have the potential to support English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learning. However, EFL preservice teachers receive little to no training on integrating AI into their instruction. Additionally, training on how to connect AI to science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) learning is scarce. Limited training opportunities leave preservice teachers feeling unprepared to establish policies or merely pedagogical routines on AI’s role in the classroom. This study proposes a conceptual framework and guidelines for the design of teacher preparation on AI literacy for an equitable STEAM and EFL education approach.
