Ethical challenges are part of every AASP professional and student member's experience and continue to occur throughout one's career. Awareness of and the ability to apply the professional values linked to our Ethics Code (AASP, n.d.) is essential to principled practice in teaching, research, and consultation. Despite this necessity and the importance of representing our profession positively, relatively few applied sport psychology graduate programs offer coursework targeting ethics and professional practice (Watson, Zizzi, & Etzel, 2006). Further, recent changes to the CMPC certification program, as well as the Ethics Code and policies for AASP underscore the importance of members' understanding of relevant ethical principles and standards of our organization. Thus, the purpose of this workshop is to engage and educate participants regarding effective strategies to develop, teach, and incorporate ethics in sport psychology graduate programs. Specifically, the objectives of th is workshop include: (a) disseminating information and experiences from classroom and supervision environments regarding the teaching of ethics in sport psychology, (b) providing resources regarding the purposes and benefits of teaching ethics, and (c) discussing the development of effective methods used to deliver ethics-related content to students in sport psychology. To this end, participants will engage in small and large group discussions regarding experiences in either teaching or taking ethics-related coursework, while also developing sample syllabi and curricula for courses pertaining to ethics in sport psychology. Additionally, opportunities to develop, implement, and practice activities and exercises that can be used in the teaching of ethics will be included. The presenters will also emphasize a case-based model for teaching ethics (Pope & Vasquez, 2011), offer sample syllabi content, share a practical decision-making model (Canadian Psychological Society, 2017) dealing with ethical quandaries, and provide guidance for how these resources can be incorporated in the teaching of this critical aspect of our profession.
