In this research, we explore individual-level, nonprofessional investor reactions to a cybersecurity breach announcement by experimentally investigating 1) if the different type of cybersecurity incidents (Ransomware / Privacy Breach) impacts the severity of responses; and 2) if the particular industry type (Finance / Manufacturing) of a breached company impacts investor reactions.
