Abstract

  • The presence of the cationic phospholipid lysyl-PG in bacterial cytoplasmic membranes has been linked to increased resistance to cationic antimicrobial peptides. Here, we investigated the effect of lysyl-PG on binding of 6W-RP-1, an antimicrobial peptide, to lipid vesicles and on peptide-induced dye release. Unexpectedly, lysyl-PG concentrations typically found in most staphylococcal cell membranes only minimally reduced binding of 6W-RP-1 to model vesicles.
