Abstract
- As a prior band director, I can remember the challenges of integrating composition and improvisation into my teaching. It was always challenging to find time in a limited teaching and performance schedule where students could work on composition projects at their own pace. Additionally, monitoring the progress of sixty or more students in a single classroom, managing and grading them, and assuring each student had the resources to complete the task were also challenging.
