Background
Interprofessional collaboration has been established as an essential component in health care education programs to prepare students for their future roles.
Purpose
This article describes the development, implementation, and evaluation of a pilot Sim-IPE for athletic training (AT) and prelicensure nursing students.
Method
Twenty AT and twelve nursing students participated in the Sim-IPE. At the conclusion of the simulation, students completed the Student Perceptions of
Interprofessional
Clinical Education-Revised (SPICE-R) survey and answered open-ended reflective questions.
Discussion/Conclusion
Introducing IPE using simulation can be a useful methodology to prepare interprofessional students to collaborate and communicate effectively. The students who participated in our pilot Sim-IPE found it to be a valuable learning opportunity that will inform their future work. Similar activities should be offered across health care disciplines to prepare students for interprofessional practice.
