Overview
Description
I organized this thematic panel. This thematic proposal combines the educator and historian roles of four members. Each will discuss a course or project designed specifically to introduce and engage students with nursing history. The design and delivery of a graduate seminar course, an undergraduate seminar course, a special project theatrical production, and a study abroad course will be shared. The framework used for course/project development as well as barriers and benefits of using a framework will be described. Student responses to include challenges and "a-ha" moments will be revealed. The audience will have the opportunity to share their personal experiences as an educator or a student related to students' introduction and engagement with nursing history. This discussion can help the audience consider course revisions or new courses and projects that build on the lessons learned and course ideas presented. Together, we can strengthen course design and delivery to increase students' exposure to nursing history. Course by course, through positive and innovative engagement, we can enhance nursing students' appreciation for studying nursing's past.
