Abstract

  • This chapter will examine the disordered eating in sport literature and discuss its relevance to the coaching profession. The chapter will begin with an overview of the significance of disordered eating in sport, its connection to weight status and body image concerns, and why understanding these phenomena is critical for coaches. The theoretical frameworks and research findings that have advanced our understanding of disordered eating in sport over the last decade will be discussed. Future research and practical implications on the role that coaches play in prevention, detection, referral, and treatment will conclude the chapter.
