The Impact of Experiential Learning in an Asian Religions Course Presentation uri icon

Description

  • This paper discusses the impact of experiential learning exercises on students enrolled in an Asian Religions course, as evidenced by quantitative and qualitative data from an IRB-¬approved research study of seventy-four student participants. Over the course of the semester students engaged in Confucian social rituals, Taoist practices of stillness, Hindu practices of yoga, Sikh practices of singing, Jain practices of non¬violence, and Buddhist practices of meditation. They intentionally engaged in each activity for several days, after which they wrote a reflective essay integrating their experience with what they had learned about the respective religious tradition.
