Efolio Technologies for the Digital Students

Portfolios are collections of students' work over time and may be used for evaluation of a student's abilities and improvement (North Central Regional Educational Laboratory, 2008). In the recent days, with the availability of the web, students have been able to digitally showcase their products in an digital format known as efolios or webfolios. Attempts have been made to distinguish efolios and webfolios, efolios have been commonly referred to being delivered on a CD, and webfolio as being delivered on the web. However, with the web publishing feature and availability of the internet, the distinction is not very clear anymore. In this presentation we consider both efolios and webfolios as electronic material that is delivered through the web.
An eportfolio is a web-based information management system where the student builds and maintains a digital repository of artifacts, which they can use to demonstrate competence and reflect on their learning. Showcasing technology based projects in a digital format has several advantages for the students and is also starting to become more commonplace in K-12 and in higher education. Efolios offer a powerful way for students to create a variety of products that contain digital media and showcase to demonstrate their learning and also provide an opportunity for their teachers to assess their learning.
