Dr. Simmons was born in Tacoma Park, Maryland, just outside the District of Columbia line. He was raised in Gaithersburg and Baltimore, Maryland, attended the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute for high school, and became interested in archaeology as an undergraduate student at Franklin Pierce College. He has been happily married for over 36 years.
