David Alderson MacQueen, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist and Associate Professor in the UNCW Department of Psychology, where he serves as core clinical faculty in the clinical psychology program. He earned his B.S. in Business Administration and M.A. in Psychology from UNCW before completing his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology at University of South Florida. Clinical internships were completed in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Department of Psychiatry (masters level), and at the University of California San Diego (UCSD)/VA San Diego Healthcare system (doctoral). He subsequently completed a three year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical research, also at UCSD/VA San Diego Healthcare System.

Dr. MacQueen's research integrates clinical psychology, behavioral pharmacology, and neuroscience to better understand substance use disorders and cognitive dysfunction. His work emphasizes cross-species translational methods, pharmacogenomics, machine learning, and wearable technologies to develop objective approaches for assessing and treating substance dependence. He has published extensively on cognitive assessment, attention, addiction, and psychopharmacology, with research appearing in leading journals including Neuropharmacology, Psychopharmacology, Drug and Alcohol Dependence, the Pharmacogenomics Journal, and the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology.
