Abstract
In an environment of ever shrinking state and university budgets, colleges nationwide are striving to serve greater numbers of students, larger geographic areas, and more diverse populations in an effort to enhance services and attract revenue resources. Now there exists many distance education (DE) strategies, both synchronous and asynchronous, for increasing margins and delivering services in locations other than a home campus. These include satellite campuses, online programs, academic partnerships, and a la carte programs delivered for specific clienteles. A solution that has been around for a long time, but about which there is scant empirical data, is allowing students in off-campus locations to tap into and participate in a traditional on-campus course via live video feed. The subject of our study is the use of this strategy, and student perceptions of it, at a regional, four-year master’s level public institution located in the southeast.
