Bringing Computational Thinking to K-12 Teachers: Effective Professional Development Model and Strategies Presentation uri icon

  • The purpose of this presentation is to share the professional development model and strategies used in a funded initiative entitled “Integrating Computing and Mathematics Education Using Simulation and Modeling (INCOME).” The presentation will explore the impact of the professional development on mathematics teachers’ practices and perception. In addition, by comparing lessons learned from conducting PD for this grant initiative with another NSF funded project entitled “Using Squeak to Infuse Information Technology into the STEM Curriculum in Grades 7-12”, the presenters will identify the elements of effective professional development model and strategies for mathematics teachers. An introduction to Squeak Etoys and projects developed by students and teachers addressing the CCSS during professional development activities will also be shared.
