In this paper, social studies researchers examine the teaching of environmental sustainability, specifically focused on plastic pollution, in a social studies methods course with elementary preservice teachers. Using surveys, documentary film, expert guest lecture, and focus groups, they examined preservice teachers’ beliefs about environmental sustainability and further explored the use of documentary film and guest lecture as materials and methods to teach environmental sustainability.
