Abstract
- The service-learning assignment chosen for NSG 401 is the development of puppet shows that address health promotion for pre-K students at the local Head Start Program in Wilmington, N.C. This program addresses the needs of children aged 3-5 years who are at the poverty level in our county by, "enhancing the social and cognitive development of children through the provision of education, health, nutrition, and social services to these children and their families." (http://wilmheadstart.org.global-nameservers.com). In addition, they strongly encourage parental involvement, not only to pass on what is being taught to their children,but to also strengthen family bonds and social connections. This is definitely an underserved and vulnerable population.
