Abstract
- Radiology and imaging nurses develop specific knowledge and expertise that can be used to advance their specialty resulting in enhanced quality and safety of care. Aside from conducting research and implementing evidence-based practice change initiatives, radiology and imaging nurses can disseminate findings and results to other practicing nurses and those educating future nurses. One approach to disseminating the evidence is through scholarly writing. This article presents a comprehensive approach to developing as a scholarly writer. Results of a hermeneutic phenomenological study by Gazza, Shellenbarger, and Hunker (2012) that uncovered the experience of developing as a scholarly writer from the perspective of first semester PhD in nursing students served as the basis for the recommended strategies. The strategies include: learn about scholarly writing, create a writing scaffold, put the pieces together, and celebrate accomplishments and can be used by individuals and groups interested in advancing the specialty of radiology and imaging nursing through scholarly writing.
