The laws pertaining to amphetamine in the US and elsewhere are harsher than for any other drug (except for crack cocaine). This was based on research that claimed amphetamine use causes cognitive impairment. However, the old research is flawed and outdated. The scientific evidence does not support this claim; moreover, the evidence indicates that amphetamine can function as a performance enhancing drug.
