Abstract
- Eleven pottery sherds and one soil sample were submitted for lipid residue analysis from the Graveline Mound site, a Late Woodland platform mound along the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. All of the sherds contained interpretable residue, although there was some degradation of the residues, and although sunscreen and bug spray contamination was present in six of the residues. Ten of the eleven residues contained a mixture of primarily plant and possibly fish resources mixed with meat; a fish presence seemed very probable in four of the residues. One residue contained a mixture of coniferous and non-coniferous plant resins mixed with fish and burned or sooted; it is interpreted as a residue from a special-use vessel.
