Some of you may have heard me speak about my book in progress under the name Floating Homelands as a project that deeply examines the spatial practices of making postnational homeplace, as represented in the literature of Black women and queer writers. Their characters make home across diaspora in resistance of national borders and the violent maintenance thereof. I’m thinking through bell hooks’ deeply political framing of Black women’s homemaking work in “Homeplace: A Site of Resistance,” and I hope I’m extending her work when it comes to homeplace practices beyond the scale of the domestic and the context of the U.S. My book has evolved into Black Feminist Literary Geographies, which gives me more room to examine these postnational homeplace practices and also other Black and queer homeplace practices in what I hope is becoming a richer, more expansive conception, a “thick map,” if you will, of a Black feminist literary geographic imaginary across many geotemporalities. I’m on a journey deeper into an interdisciplinary framing of my Black literary studies groundings, so I appreciate your respective disciplinary thoughts about my work
