  • Two consecutive studies were conducted by the Waccamaw Siouan Indigenous Science Initiative to determine the presence of chemical contaminants in the soil and well water of Waccamaw Siouan tribal members in southeastern North Carolina. This research was conducted within the context of an Indigenous science framework, with tribal community liaisons participating in research design and data collection, and applying an Indigenous lens to interpreting and applying results.
