My ongoing / permanent installation Retention / Detention continued to make meaningful progress as a permanent installation at the Cameron Art Museum retention pond. Although development moved at a slower pace than originally anticipated, the project benefited from significant technical advancements. The sensor system is currently undergoing a full redesign, incorporating faster, more energy-efficient components, upgraded environmental sensors, and a new on-demand webcam system. In addition, the modular “Phase 3” design has begun to take shape, supported by a new interdisciplinary collaboration with Dr. Eric Moore at University of North Carolina Wilmington. Through this partnership, mycelium-based materials are being cultivated to create floating sculptural forms that will serve as the foundation for the next phase of the installation, integrating ecological research with fabrication processes.
