Absorbed Residue Analysis of 44 Sherds from the Caguitas site, 24PC01577 Report uri icon

Abstract

  • orty-four sherds were submitted for organic residue analysis from the Caguitas site in Puerto Rico, 24PC01577. Of these, 26 were noted as from burĂ©ns, 13 from sherds with no vessel form noted, 2 from open shallow vessels, 1 from a large shallow vessel, 1 from a cerrido, and 1 from a small open globular vessel. Interpretable residues were found in 30 of these sherds. Seventeen of the sherds were interpreted as containing primarily plant and/or fish/shellfish resources, one was interpreted as containing a mixture of plant/fish and terrestrial animal resources, 12 were interpreted as containing primarily terrestrial animal resources, and 14 were uninterpretable or empty. Indicators for fish and shellfish resource presence were found in 13 sherds, including 10 interpreted as containing primarily plant and/or fish resources, and three interpreted as containing primarily terrestrial animal resources. Conifer resins were identified in 7 of the 44 sherds, including two interpreted as otherwise empty.
