Description

  • Procrastination is a common concern for students, many of whom experience significant self-criticism. The purpose of this mixed methods interdisciplinary research is to examine rates of procrastination and experiences in response to integrating self-kindness practice (i.e., “being kind to your future self”) within course design. An aspect of self-compassion, self-kindness is introduced as pedagogical tool to move away negative self-criticism and towards increased proactiveness. Preliminary data from 830 students across 30 in-person and online courses across 5 disciplines reveal that self-kindness improved procrastination, and qualitative themes suggest increased growth in students’ understanding of procrastination, intentionality, and the value of self-kindness.
