Where We're Going, We Don't Need Roads: Centering students as creators and investigators in their media landscape Presentation uri icon

Description

  • Teaching students to navigate the complex information landscape they live in can feel like an impossible task, requiring more skills than we have time to teach. What if we reconceptualized that navigation from pointing them to one “correct” path to equipping them with the tools they need to find their own way, rooted in their own experiences? In a semester long course on information literacy and issues, we set out to do that through assignments and in class activities that placed students in the role of creators and active contributors, building on their lived experience and expertise.
