‘Who Pulls Me Out From Deep Within Myself?’: Performing the Sacred and the Secular in Early Western Drama Presentation uri icon

Description

  • Two companion sessions covering some of the earliest theatrical traditions in Western Europe from 500 to 1700 C.E., focusing on the role of ritual, sacrament, education, and community. From morality and cycle plays in England to convent dramas in Germany and Mexico to autos sacramentales in Spain, these sessions introduce us to some of the artists speaking to the needs of their time (and perhaps, to ours) through the lens of the sacred.
