Book Talk: bell hooks’s Radical Pedagogy: New Visions of Feminism, Justice, Love, and Resistance in the Classroom Presentation uri icon

Description

  • The editors of this exigent and accessible collection on bell hooks' radical pedagogy (manuscript currently in production) will discuss the imperative to return to hooks' teaching trilogy with renewed commitment to insurgent and transgressive teaching. We will discuss: 1) the values and commitments with which we conceptualized the volume, 2) our Black feminist editorial praxis guiding our engagements with teacher scholars working in their communities, in K-12 education and higher education institutions, 3) the structure of the collection and the rationale with which we organized its sections, and 4) highlight several of the teachings and reflections in the collection that offer concrete strategies for teaching in our times. We will then welcome questions from the audience, and we especially hope that the ensuing conversation generates helpful strategies for implementing the practical wisdom within the text.
