Authentic assessment has been a buzzword in education for more than a decade. Numerous workshops and sessions for teachers can be found offered at any given education conference covering education However, as with other teaching strategies, what we hold up as best practices for our classroom teachers is difficult to find in our higher education classrooms. Our graduate program in education has developed an authentic assessment model for our graduate students to show evidence of completion of their graduate degree in literacy education. From the student feedback and that of our participating faculty, we find this to be the most authentic method for giving evidence of their growth in the field of literacy education.
