As an institution of higher education, UNCW recognizes the vital role supporting neurodiversity plays in learning and innovation. In 2022, the Retreat at Randall was established after being intentionally designed to support both personal and academic success through engagement in mindfulness-based activities. Feedback from users of the Retreat identified the need for a purposefully designed space to support academic study for neurodiverse learners. By creating a sensory-friendly study space, it established the UNCW Library as welcoming, accessible, and responsive to the neurodivergent needs of all community learners.
