Abstract
- Medication errors are a significant cause of morbidity and mortality. Although it is essential that nursing students are well-trained to incorporate skill and clinical judgment competencies in medication administration (MA), there is minimal evidence about the effectiveness of escape room simulation (ERS) for teaching this content. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of an ERS compared with high-fidelity simulation (HFS) for teaching MA competencies. Nursing students (n=116) participated in ERS or HFS followed by a summative simulation to evaluate MA competencies. Results indicated ERS and HFS are both effective for teaching MA competencies.
