Overview
Overview
Abstract
Recordings of Costa Rican concert music are a recent phenomenon, as most of the recordings have been made in the last fifteen years. This recording project is the first album exclusively containing Costa Rican concert music for saxophone. The selected music is representative of Costa Rican concert music and includes a variety of Costa Rican composers. The objectives of this recording project are to promote and encourage the performance of Costa Rican concert music for saxophone, as well as to provide an aural and written frame of reference to saxophonists when performing this music. This document includes a brief historical review of Latin American concert music for saxophone and Costa Rican concert music. Costa Rican concert music identity and the musical characteristics of the selected compositions are also discussed.
