Building models for problem-based learning using Squeak Academic Article uri icon

Abstract

  • From the perspective of a game or simulation designer, the USeIT Project teaches 7th-12th grade teachers to: 1. Use Squeak to model scientific and mathematical phenomena; and 2. Teach their students to use Squeak to build virtual laboratories and conduct virtual experiments. In addition, the USeIT project employs Squeak to teach, exploit, and cultivate problembased learning (PBL) practices in order to facilitate fulfillment of the objectives of a standards-based curriculum, specifically the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Squeak is freely available from Viewpoints Research Institute, Inc., (Glendale, CA) at the Squeak web site or the USeIT Project web site.
