This study investigates both objective (e.g., citation deficiencies and online reviews) and subjective (resident interviews) measures of care quality in Medicaid versus Medicare/private pay skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). Using North Carolina SNFs as case studies, the research employs the Donabedian Model to assess care quality. Data is gathered from state health departments, Medicare/Medicaid services, and resident interviews to analyze disparities and enhance understanding of the SNF care experience. This comprehensive approach aims to identify and address differences in care quality, ultimately contributing to the improvement of SNF care standards across various payer sources.
