Continuum chronicles the journey of Duo Sureño (Nancy King and Robert Nathanson, concertizing together since 1999) over the past six years, as the ensemble gradually added in three additional musicians (Laurent Estoppey, Helmut Jasbar and Livia Sellin), known informally as the Carolina Chamber Players. This larger ensemble has played concerts across North Carolina (Wilmington, Raleigh, Greensboro, Chapel Hill), in addition to two tours to Vienna, Austria. New commissions by William Grosvenor Neil (Love Poem with a Knife, and Continuum) broadened the ensembles orchestral palate by combining two guitars, voice, and violin, and David Leisner’s Singing to the Stars was composed for the full ensemble (soprano/alto/baritone saxophones). This CD shows the full breadth of the ensemble from duos to quintets, traversing different soundscapes for a unique and compelling take on contemporary chamber music.
