Abstract
- Twenty-two potsherds were submitted for absorbed residue analysis from site PO-29 in Ponce, Puerto Rico. All but one of the sherds contained residue in interpretable amounts, although there was some contamination from modern products and a moderate microbial and/or fungal load on many of the residues. The residues from site were generally similar, being comprised primarily of plant or plant/fish resources with meat uniformly present. Small amounts of highly degraded coniferous resin were identified in six of the twenty-two sherds. Some type of palm oil was tentatively identified in one of the sherds, and one of the sherds contained a stanol/stanone series typical of manuring. This may have resulted from either offal processing or contamination from organically fertilized soil.
