Abstract

  • We show that meaningful discussion with peers is both a predictor of students’ perceptions of the importance of contributing to a larger community and development of personal and social responsibility. Additionally, we show that meaningful discussion with peers is an effective learning strategy and a powerful mediator, strengthening the effects of community-based programs on students’ perceptions and development.
