Abstract
- Middle school students are often familiar with linear functions, but do not get many opportunities to work with step functions. To learn more about how students think about these non-linear functions and their representations, we asked students to solve the "Sneaking Up the Line" task. The task was given to undergraduate education majors and middle school students. Results of the task implementation are discussed along with implications for teaching.
