Abstract
- This exhibition review provides an overview of curator Magdalena Moskalewicz's "The Travelers: Voyage and Migration in New Art from Central and Eastern Europe" shown at the Zachęta National Gallery in Warsaw, Poland from May 14 - August 21, 2016. In an effort to provide a nuanced summary of the exhibition, my review includes descriptions of a selection of key works that addressed both the exhilaration and challenges of global movement in a post-1989 context. The review emphasizes how the exhibition juxtaposed romanticized ideas of travel with more critical explorations of displacement, while also addressing the ambivalence surrounding identity in a rapidly changing Eastern Europe.
