Medications are associated with adverse reactions, but precision medicine provides a way to individualize appropriate drug therapies. To increase knowledge and use of precision medicine, the Clinical Pharmacogenomic Implementation Consortium (CPIC) created evidence-based algorithms for healthcare providers prescribing various medications. The use of smartphones and mobile apps for prescribing medications has exponentially increased since the introduction of physician order entry and other digital decision support tools. Providers are at the forefront of patient care, making them well-positioned to educate patients about new and innovative technologies associated with their health. A clinical decision support mobile application that provides information and rationales for the prescription of certain oncology medications based on a patient’s genomic profile was previously created and tested by healthcare providers in the oncology field. Based on this study's positive response, the mobile app was further refined based on the outcomes of the study.
