Civic engagement in the sciences: Lessons from the SENCER model Presentation uri icon

Description

  • This presentation explores models for helping prepare students for lives of engagement and service developed by the Science Education for New Civic Engagements and Responsibilities (SENCER) program. These models are aimed at “strengthening students’ understanding of science and their capacity for responsible work and citizenship” (www.sencer.net) through imbedding civic engagement within courses in the STEM disciplines. We present an overview of SENCER course design and provide concrete examples of SENCER courses on our campuses.
