Abstract
Ageism pervades our society, yet bringing conscious awareness of older adults can facilitate confronting beliefs that are not grounded in reality but based on media-induced stereotyping. Photography can be used to focus people’s conscious attention on the aging experience and provide an outlet to identify positive outcomes of aging, challenges associated with aging, and the everyday experiences of older adults. In this manuscript I share steps for implementing community-wide photography competitions centered on aging-related themes, which can facilitate multi-generational and multi-cultural discussions about aging.
