Nursing students need to learn how to protect patient safety in the clinical setting. For novice nursing students, a safe
environment to practice these skills is key. Simulation allows students to practice patient interactions to learn about
various aspects of patient safety. An escape room is one innovative way to utilize the simulated environment to teach
patient safety through teamwork and problem solving. This applied learning project will incorporate online modules
focused on patient safety concepts, high fidelity simulation training with an escape room in small groups, and
debriefing to reflect on their experience and how they will incorporate patient safety concepts in their future patient
interactions. Funding will provide for supplies needed for the escape room, a QR code scanner, and tools to evaluate
critical thinking.
