Abstract
- Ten pottery samples were submitted for absorbed residue analysis from a stratigraphically intact multicomponent riverine site near Columbia, SC. All the pottery contained residues, although most of the residues were contaminated to some degree with sunscreen. Although there was some variation, particularly in the presence and absence of plant resins and possible fish resources, all but one of the interpretable residues from the site appeared to consist of a wide range of primarily plant resources, with meat present in every residue. There was some chronological change, but the overall types and varieties of resources processed in pottery at the site remained fairly constant over time.
