Description
This panel investigates UNCW’s implementation of a consortial institutional repository (IR), NC DOCKS (North Carolina Digital Online Collection of Knowledge and Scholarship). This IR, developed by UNC Greensboro and shared with UNCW and three other UNC System institutions, went live in November, 2008. UNCW labeled its collection in the larger database “Seahawk DOCKS.” Seahawk DOCKS is a vehicle to serve faculty members across all disciplines, but especially in the sciences, because these disciplines are well represented in peer-reviewed literature. Librarians from UNCW will discuss issues regarding the establishment of the IR, such as setting a collection development policy in a consortial setting; determining workflows and customizing a back-end database to aid in copyright clearance and document ingest; and marketing the database to faculty across the sciences and all departments.
