Abstract
- The purpose of this project is to initiate cybersecurity research that addresses needs identified by government funding agencies and improves the cybersecurity posture of UNCW. The objective of this project is to develop and evaluate a Cyber Threat Early Warning System (EWS) based on social media data. Social media streams, such as Twitter feeds, Facebook posts, and LinkedIn posts can offer indicators of emerging events more quickly than official channels. Cyberattacks often spread across networks at a geometric rate, thus early warning and rapid response by IT security specialists are crucial to reducing the damage caused by such attacks.
